This year marks the sixth edition of the literature-promotion initiative by Libri Bookstores and Jelenkor Publishing \u2013 this time, selected poems by Andr\u00e1s Visky are being published in a free-to-access volume for students, with ten thousand copies available.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

As a dedicated supporter of culture, Libri considers promoting reading and supporting contemporary literature to be one of its main responsibilities.<\/strong> Libri\u2019s goal is to bring the works of domestic authors\u2014who have significantly contributed to Hungary\u2019s intellectual and cultural heritage\u2014to as wide an audience as possible. In recent years, Libri has provided around fifty thousand gift copies to students with the aim of making contemporary authors better known and more popular among young readers.<\/p>\n\n

After the works of Mikl\u00f3s M\u00e9sz\u00f6ly, \u00c1gnes Nemes Nagy, P\u00e9ter N\u00e1das, Szil\u00e1rd Borb\u00e9ly, and J\u00e1nos T\u00e9rey, this year young readers can explore the poetic works of Andr\u00e1s Visky<\/strong>, the Transylvanian Hungarian writer, playwright, and dramaturg, recipient of the J\u00f3zsef Attila and Kossuth Prizes. Vissza a nyomokon<\/em> will be available from June 12 at the Libri Bookstores\u2019 stand during the Book Festival and nationwide in Libri stores.<\/strong> To receive a copy of the anthology, all that is required is a student ID.<\/p>\n\n

Andr\u00e1s Visky was born in 1957 in T\u00e2rgu Mure\u0219. During the Ceau\u0219escu dictatorship, he and his family were deported to the B\u0103r\u0103gan Plain in Romania for political reasons\u2014a childhood experience that is reflected in several of his works. His novel Kitelep\u00edt\u00e9s<\/em> has been among the most widely read literary works in recent years, receiving the Marg\u00f3 Prize in 2023 and the Libri Literary Award in 2024 for the most popular literary work abroad of the year. His stage plays are performed by both domestic and international theatre companies, and he currently serves as the chief dramaturg at the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj.<\/p> \n \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n

His first poetry collection, Partrasz\u00e1ll\u00e1s<\/em>, was published in 1984. The newly released anthology highlights the most iconic pieces of his oeuvre, ranging from early poems that showcase diverse and inventive formal approaches to later works that transform individual and communal experiences, personal events, and biblical stories into linguistic events.<\/p> \n \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n<\/div> \n<\/article><\/p>\n\n

The words of Andr\u00e1s Visky himself serve best as an introduction to the volume. The author shares his thoughts on why it is important for today\u2019s youth to engage with contemporary Hungarian literature and what poetry can offer them in today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n\n
