Although it may seem that today\u2019s adolescents crave completely different reading material than older generations, in reality they are drawn to the same timeless stories\u2014novels about first love, friendship, or the challenges of fitting in\u2014that their parents and grandparents loved.<\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n\n

Surprisingly often, today\u2019s teens pick up books: according to a 2023 British survey, young people in England and Ireland read nearly 25% more books than the previous year, and their choices are often influenced by book recommendations available on TikTok or other online platforms.<\/p>\n\n

While younger teens and preteens are fans of Judit Berg, Betti Koll\u00e1r, and Laura Leiner, older teens aged 17\u201318 tend to prefer genres such as romantasy, cozy crime, cozy mystery, and historical fantasy. Although it may often seem that today\u2019s adolescents read completely different material than their parents or grandparents, the essence remains the same: young readers seek heroes facing dilemmas similar to their own and wish to explore worlds where they can safely discover their own emotions and ask the questions that matter to them.<\/p>\n\n

Of course, alongside popular contemporary authors, the timeless classics should not be forgotten\u2014teenage girls can still enjoy works such as Magda Szab\u00f3\u2019s \u00c1larcosb\u00e1l<\/em>,\u00a0Sz\u00fclet\u00e9snap\u00a0<\/em>as well as Mondj\u00e1tok meg Zs\u00f3fik\u00e1nak!<\/em>\u00a0The popularity of these books is no coincidence: among the authors of polka-dotted and striped books, one finds some of the most significant figures of Hungarian literature.<\/p><\/p>\n\n

Echoing the world of the polka-dotted and striped books while promising magical, cozy holiday moments, Libri\u2019s special edition of M\u00e1ria Szepes\u2019s youth novel Gyerekcsillag<\/em> is ideal for young readers. The story follows Tak\u00e1cs, also known as T\u00fccs\u00f6k Rozi, who discovers not only new, unknown worlds but also learns to navigate the labyrinth of human relationships. The main message of Gyerekcsillag<\/em> is that deep down, we are all good\u2014and our \u201cbetter selves\u201d can emerge not only in fairy tales, dreams, and imagination but also in real life.<\/p><\/p>\n\n

M\u00e1ria Szepes, who also authored the P\u00f6tty\u00f6s Panni<\/em> series, first published Gyerekcsillag<\/em> in 1976, and readers have waited ever since for a new edition. Libri is now releasing the book in a special Christmas edition, featuring charming illustrations by Emy R\u00f3na that bring the world of children\u2019s drawings vividly to life.<\/p><\/p>\n\n
