Applications Are Now Open for the Storytelling Academy
At Libri’s first-ever Storytelling Academy, actor István Mikó will introduce grandparents and parents to the secrets of perfect storytelling. Participants will learn proper intonation and the rules of bringing characters to life, and during the workshop they can even practice improvisational techniques. The Storytelling Academy will take place on November 21 at the Scruton Belváros community space, and at the end of the program participants will receive a certificate proving their storytelling skills—becoming, in effect, “certified story readers.”
“Why is it worth reading stories aloud or even telling them by heart? Because they always carry a lesson. The author tells the story to point us in a certain direction through the plot, helping to improve or ease our situation in life. And if we tell a story by heart, it also develops the storyteller’s imagination,” says actor István Mikó, who has lent his voice to numerous fairy-tale and animated characters over recent decades. His most iconic dubbing role was Winnie-the-Pooh, but audiences have also heard him as the Chief Worm in The Great Ho-ho-ho Fisherman, Lazy Dick in Cat City, and the Genie in Aladdin.
István Mikó now shares his experience in bringing story heroes to life as part of Libri Bookstores’ newly launched Storytelling Academy, aimed at anyone curious about the secrets of reading stories aloud and storytelling from memory. The goal of the November 21 program is to support grandparents and parents in a playful way in animating stories, shaping characters, and developing the performance skills needed for authentic, engaging storytelling at home. At the end of the program, every participant will receive a certificate—this “diploma” attests to their basic proficiency in reading stories aloud and telling them by heart.
The first Storytelling Academy will take place on November 21, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., at Scruton Belváros. Entry requires the purchase of a fully redeemable Libri gift card worth HUF 10,000, available at any Libri Bookstore or at www.libri.hu/ajandekkartya. Registration (by sending a copy of the receipt) is possible via email at pr@libribookline.com, and participants must also bring the receipt to the event. The Storytelling Academy is limited to a maximum of 30 participants, and children are welcome as well—however, organizers ask those attending with children to indicate this in advance.
